Foil Stamping Artwork Guidelines

Hot Foil stamping is a beautiful way to add metallic, shiny accents to your printed designs. To ensure your artwork is ready for foil stamping and achieves the best results, follow these essential guidelines. For a price quote, please email info@soho-paper.com.

File Format

  • Submit your artwork in vector format(such as AI or PDF) and 100% black.

Text Considerations

  • Keep fonts at least 10 pt or larger for legibility and to ensure the foil adheres properly. Very small
fonts or intricate lettering may not stamp cleanly.
  • Avoid using overly thin or delicate fonts, as they can result in poor foil coverage. Bold, clean,
    and thick fonts are ideal.
  • All fonts must be outlined. No image files allowed (i.e. jpg, tiff, or png).

Margins and Spacing

  • Leave at least 0.125" (3mm) of space around foil elements to prevent misalignment.
  • If your foil elements are intended to go to the edge of the page, ensure you provide proper
bleed (usually 0.125" or 3mm) to accommodate trimming.

For Digital Printing AND Foil Stamping

If your design requires both digital printing and foil stamping , you should supply
three separate files of identical dimensions:
  1. Digital File: In CMYK color format for the digital printing portion.
  2. Foil File: A vector file containing the foil areas (100% black).
  3. Preview File: A preview file that shows the expected outcome of the final product,
including both digital print and foil areas.
